CW to Reboot ‘Beauty And The Beast’ 1980s TV Series

Well, why not, huh? Every other network is rebooting stuff, so you might as well too, CW!

… the rebooted project, set up at CBS Television Studios, is described as a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist. Brothers and Sisters duo producer Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper are attached to pen the project and executive produce alongside Paul Witt, C. Anthony Thomas, Ron Koslow and Bill Haber.

The project comes nearly a week after ABC Studios set up a “reimagination” of the famed story with Human Target scribe Jonathan E. Steinberg attached to executive produce and pen the project for ABC.

The ABC version, with Gary Fleder and Mary Beth Basile attached as exec producers, is described as an epic fantasy reimagining of the public domain fairy tale about a girl forced to live with a beast in a castle who ultimately falls in love with him. [Source: THWR]

To consider an extreme case of Stockholm Syndrome a ‘modern-day love story’ is kinda weird; ‘a girl forced to live with a beast in a castle who ultimately falls in love with him’? Uhhh maybe if they used different word than ‘ultimately’ it would be a little less creepy and disturbing. The original series starred Sarah Connor and a giant Furry and it was about their adventures in the sewers of New York City. That’s what I remember from the one time I watched it, anyway.

One Response to CW to Reboot ‘Beauty And The Beast’ 1980s TV Series

  1. I’m a devoted fan of the original & I’m nervous about a remake -But devoted fans weren’t consulted, so I’m trying to think positively -I have a long wish list: I hope Vincent still looks & acts the same -I hope Catherine (& he) are at least over 25 (Most fans worry the CW will make them teens) -that the only modernization is that Catherine has a cell phone & the procedural twist mentioned is that her job is more of an ivestigational one -that the tunnels & its dwellers are the same -that the show is well written, cast & acted -I think Amber Benson would make a good Catherine & Kevin Durand as Vincent
